Our Story
The Beginning
PitbullHero was started in 2017 after the founder — a cybersecurity professional and a huge fan of all dogs — moved to Colorado and was denied the ability to buy a home in Denver because of his dog's appearance/breed, due to the city's ban on dogs labeled as "pitbulls" (known as breed-specific legislation, or BSL). As a result, he bought a home in a nearby town without such restrictions and launched PitbullHero to combat the specific problem of BSL — which erroneously judges entire populations of dogs based solely on their appearance — and the broader issue of stigma and misconceptions about pitbulls. In 2020, Denver voters repealed the city's decades-old "pitbull ban" by a wide majority.
PitbullHero
2017
PitbullHero was established with the launch of the Pitbullinfo.org website. The "Facts Over Fear" tagline reflects the site's focus on providing information grounded in scientific evidence and expert consensus.
2022
We launched our PitbullHero brand while continuing to maintain Pitbullinfo.org — our flagship site packed with facts about pitbulls, scientific studies, and dog bite-related data and statistics.
Growth
We've grown to over 200,000 followers across social media, and our websites receive hundreds of thousands of visits annually.
BSL Repeals
Over 100 cities and towns across the U.S. have repealed inequitable BSL and dog bans — thanks to amazing citizens and voters nationwide who are standing up against BSL and the stigmatization of dogs labeled as "pitbulls."
2025 Refresh
We gave PitbullHero a complete refresh with a new theme — "America's Dog" — and moved our site from Pitbullinfo.org to PitbullHero.org.
Our Mission
America's Dog
American Pit Bull Terriers — and dogs commonly labeled as "pitbulls" — were once known as "America's Dog." Our mission is to restore their image and end the stigma that surrounds them. We support the responsible ownership of all dogs — regardless of appearance or breed — which ultimately benefits all people, all dogs, and all communities.
Facts Over Fear
We provide facts and research about dogs labeled as "pitbulls," grounded in
scientific evidence and expert consensus — the foundation of our tagline, "Facts Over Fear."
